George of Lilien (1652–1726)

Georg Lilien , from 1704 von Lilien , (born October 17, 1652 in Berlin , † June 22, 1726 in Wittstock / Dosse ) was a royal Prussian lieutenant general, governor of Geldern and heir on Zaatzke. He was raised to the nobility in 1704.

Life

His father was the provost at the St Nikolai Church in Berlin Georg Lilien († 1666). His mother Emerentiene Lehmann continued the upbringing. The Freiherr von Pölnitz tried to win him over to the guard. But his mother prevents this and so he went to the universities in Frankfurt and Jena instead . When he had finished his studies, his thirst for adventure had not subsided, so he was now enlisted by Major General Pölnitz for the Guard. He rose quickly and was appointed captain of the guard by Field Marshal Schöning in 1688 . At the same time the guard was to be enlarged by several companies, so Lilien was sent to advertise. He was able to recruit a company of 125 men in Halle in six weeks. In 1709 he found himself at the siege of Tournai . Field Marshal von Lottum publicly praised Lily's company as the best.

In 1691 he became regimental quartermaster of the life guards. On June 1, 1693 he became a major. On September 2, 1702 he became a lieutenant colonel and in 1705 a colonel. On January 21, 1710 he was promoted to major general. On September 28, 1720 he became lieutenant general, governor of Geldern and head of the Gelderian domain commission. He was also chief of the garrison regiment in Geldern (later Füselier regiment No. 32 ). In 1724 he fell out of favor when he arbitrarily released a squeezed soldier from the Bardeleben regiment . He was released and received a salary of 600 thalers. He retired to his estate Zaatzke near Wittstock where he died in 1726.

family
