Philipp Karl Graf von Wylich and Lottum (born August 27, 1650 in Diersfordt , † February 14, 1719 in Wesel ) was a Prussian field marshal .

Life

Philipp Karl was the son of Baron Johann Sigismund von Wylich and Lottum (* 1609; † June 25, 1678) and Josina von Wittenhorst-Sonsfeld († November 7, 1677).

He entered Dutch service in 1668. He took from 1672 to 1679 the war against France in part and was on Dec. 13, 1673 lieutenant in the company of Lieutenant Colonel Joel, on November 26, 1674 Captain , on June 7, 1677 Major and on 28 October 1678 Lieutenant Colonel. On April 8 In 1687, he got as Colonel own infantry - regiment .

On August 1, he entered service as a colonel in Brandenburg and became Chief Infantry Regiment No. 15 , it initially consisted only of French refugees. On November 5th of the same year he became major general and on November 6th commander of Wesel , on September 1st, 1692 governor of Minden . In the years 1691 to 1693 he was involved in the campaign in the Netherlands against France. On June 2, 1694 he was lieutenant general , on February 15, 1695 Oberhofmarschall and on May 27, 1698 chief director of the domains. On September 20, 1698, he took over the governorship of Spandau from Field Marshal Hans Albrecht von Barfus . On January 17, 1701 he was made Knight of the High Order to the Black Eagle and two days later by Emperor Leopold I to the rank of Imperial Count.

On September 20, 1702, Philipp Karl Graf von Wylich and Lottum became governor of Wesel and on November 6, commander-in-chief of the Prussian troops in Holland. In 1703 he besieged Rheinberg and Geldern , for which he was promoted to General of the Infantry on January 5, 1704 , and later Lille and Tournai . He was appointed governor of the Westphalian fortresses on April 18, 1705, but remained in command of the field army. He took part on July 11, 1708 and September 11, 1709 in the battles at Oudenaarde and Malplaquet , in which the French were defeated. On February 27, 1713, the new King Friedrich Wilhelm I appointed him General Field Marshal and a real secret war council.
