George Sewell

George Sewell (born August 31, 1924 in Hoxton , London , England , † April 1, 2007 in London) was a British actor .

Life

Sewell served in the Royal Air Force during World War II . He began pilot training, which was discontinued at the end of the war. He then worked for the British Merchant Navy and worked on the passenger ships RMS Queen Mary and RMS Queen Elizabeth as a ship steward for Atlantic crossings .

At the age of 35, he happened upon actor Dudley Sutton , who advised him to audition at the theater. A little later he performed in London's West End . He had one of his first feature film roles in the Oscar- nominated rugby drama Alluring Laurel , and he had other notable roles in Jack reckons and Kubrick's Barry Lyndon . However, the focus of his career was on television. In Germany he became known as Colonel Alec Freeman in the series UFO. In the German-British television series Paul Temple , he was seen in 11 episodes (1970-71) alongside Francis Matthews and Ros Drinkwater . He also played guest roles in various series formats such as The Incredible Stories of Roald Dahl and Doctor Who and appeared in the 2000 soap opera Heartbeat .

He worked for the BBC until shortly before his death on April 1, 2007 .
