Georgi Michailowitsch Schchennikow ( Russian Георгий Михайлович Щенников ; English Georgi Shchennikov ; born April 27, 1991 in Moscow , USSR ) is a Russian football player who plays as a left-back. He is the son of the Olympic walking champion , Mikhail Anatolyevich Shchennikov .

Career

Georgi Shchennikov went through the youth teams of CSKA Moscow and made his professional debut in a game in the Russian Cup against Torpedo Moscow in 2009 , in the same year he won this competition together with CSKA Moscow. He was considered one of the new discoveries of the year and came in the Premjer League in 2009 and 2010 for CSKA to 25 appearances each.

National team

Georgi Shchennikov has been part of the Russian U-21 team since 2009 and the national team since 2012.

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Russian squad . He was on the starting line-up in the first game against England, and then against Slovakia. In the decisive game against Wales he stayed on the bench. Russia lost and was eliminated from the tournament.
