The Georgia Southern University is a state university in Statesboro in the US state of Georgia . With 19,000 students (fall semester 2009), it is the largest university in southern Georgia. It was founded in 1906 and is now part of the University System of Georgia as a Carnegie Doctoral / Research University .

The university houses the United States National Tick Collection .

Sports

The Georgia Southern sports teams are the Eagles . The university has been a member of the Sun Belt Conference since 2014 .
