Gerd Roellecke

Gerd Roellecke (born July 13, 1927 in Iserlohn ; † October 30, 2011 in Karlsruhe ) was a German legal scholar and legal philosopher .

Life

Roellecke was born in 1927 as the son of the businessman Wilhelm Roellecke and was baptized a Roman Catholic. He was a soldier from 1943 to 1945. After graduating from high school in 1947, he studied economics and law in Würzburg and Freiburg from 1948 to 1952 . In 1960 he was at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg with a thesis on inherent limits of judicial power by the Constitutional Court doctorate . From 1966 to 1969 he was a research assistant at the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe . In 1969 he completed his habilitation at the University of Mainz with a thesis on the concept of positive law and the Basic Law (see below). In the same year he was appointed to the University of Mannheim , where he held the chair for public law and legal philosophy until his retirement . From August 1, 1972 to July 31, 1974 he was President of the West German Rectors' Conference .

The readers of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung knew Roellecke from his numerous reviews. He passed away on October 30, 2011. The obituary in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung of November 3, 2011 was preceded by a sentence by Niklas Luhmann : "Everything could be different - and I can change almost nothing."

He was u. a. Member of the Clausewitz Society .
