Margret Wintermantel (born April 3, 1947 in Bruchertseifen , Westerwald ) is a German university professor for social psychology . She was President of Saarland University from November 2000 to October 2006 and President of the University Rectors' Conference from March 21, 2006 to the end of April 2012 . She was also a member of the Austrian Science Council . From January 1, 2012 until the end of 2019 she was President of the DAAD .

Margret Wintermantel finished her school career in 1966 with the Abitur in Altenkirchen . From 1966 to 1970 she studied psychology and journalism at the University of Mainz and was awarded a doctorate in 1972. rer. nat. PhD . She then worked at the University of Heidelberg as a research assistant at the Psychological Institute, and since 1979 as a research assistant and project manager of the DFG research group "Spoken and Language Understanding". 1986 habilitation they are in psychology at the University of Heidelberg and was the 1992 University Professor at the University of Saarland appointed. In 1994 she was elected Vice President for Teaching and Studies there, and held the office until 1997. In 1999/2000 she was ombudswoman , member of the advisory board for women's issues and member of the Senate of Saarland University. In 2000 she was elected president of the university.

Due to her election as President of the University Rectors' Conference, Wintermantel resigned from her position as President of Saarland University on October 31, 2006 prematurely. On August 28, 2006, Volker Linneweber from the University of Magdeburg was elected as her successor .
