Richard Johannes Meiser

Richard Johannes Meiser (born August 10, 1931 in Cottbus ; † October 8, 1995 ) was a German professor of medicine and university president.

Life

Meiser completed his habilitation at the Saarland University with a thesis on cytological studies on the metabolic morphology of plasma cells . From 1971 he was professor of internal medicine there. In 1982 he was elected vice-president of the university and in 1983 he became university president. He held this office until 1992, when he resigned for health reasons.

Richard Johannes Meiser was appointed officer of the French Ordre national du Mérite in 1985 and officer of the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in 1986. In 1990 he was awarded the Erasmus Prize of the EC Commission and in 1993 the Saarland Order of Merit.
