Volker Linneweber (born February 12, 1951 in Bielefeld - Gadderbaum ) was President of Saarland University .

Vita

Linneweber studied psychology ( psychologist ), sociology and education ( graduate teacher ) at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , where he also on "Aggressive interactions" 1982 doctorate . From 1979 to 1984 he was a research assistant in the DFG research project "Aggressive Interactions in School". This was followed by a phase as a research assistant in the social and environmental sciences department (specializing in educational sciences) at Saarland University . In 1985/86 he worked as part of a DFG scholarship in the field of "Social Ecology" at the University of California, Irvine , USA. From 1990 to 1993 Linneweber was visiting professor and professor at the universities in Jena , Heidelberg and Marburg . In 1991 he obtained his habilitation at the Saarland University with the subject "Interpersonal conflicts in everyday life".
From 1993 to 1996 Linneweber was a research assistant at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and from 1996 to 2006 he held the chair for social psychology at the Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg . At the same university he was director of the Institute for Psychology from 1997 to 2000, dean of the faculty for humanities, social and educational sciences until 2002 and vice-rector for studies and teaching from 2002 to 2006. His specialty is environmental psychology . At Saarland University, Linneweber had been university president since November 1, 2006 and thus successor to Margret Wintermantel . She had resigned her office prematurely after her election as President of the University Rectors' Conference. His successor in the office of university president has been Manfred Schmitt since March 2017 .

  • Volker Linneweber is a representative of the field of psychology on the scientific advisory boards of various scientific research institutions and environmental institutes.
  • Furthermore he is co-editor of the series “Psychologie - Forschung - aktuell” at Beltz, (Weinheim), “Umweltnatur- und Umweltscialswissenschaften” at Springer (Heidelberg) and on the scientific advisory board of the journal “Umweltpsychologie”.
  • From 1999 to 2003, Volker Linneweber was the spokesman for the environmental psychology group in the German Psychological Society .
