Klaus Landfried

Klaus Landfried (born January 26, 1941 in Heidelberg ; † October 11, 2014 there ) was a German political scientist and former President of the University Rectors' Conference .

Life

Landfried studied economics, history, modern German literature, public law and political science at the universities of Basel and Heidelberg . In 1970 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the political and ideological ideas of Stefan Georges and his circle at the University of Heidelberg, where he worked at the Institute for Political Science from 1968 to 1971. From 1972 to 1973, Landfried was John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellow at Harvard University .

Since 1974 he has been a professor of political science at the University of Kaiserslautern , and in 1982 he was entrusted with the establishment of the contact office for innovation and technology consulting. From 1981 to 1987 he was first Vice President and then President of the University of Kaiserslautern until 1997. At the same time he was chairman of the regional conference of the presidents of the universities in Rhineland-Palatinate .

From 1991 to 1997 Landfried was Vice-President of the University Rectors' Conference, and in 1997 he was elected President. During his term of office until 2003, the radical changes to the courses (and the German universities in general) began in accordance with the guidelines of the Bologna Process . In addition, Landfried has been a member of the advisory board of the Center for University Development in Gütersloh since 1994 and a board member of the Rhineland-Palatinate Initiative for the Future since 1993.

Landfried denied that humans cause global warming ; he was a signatory of the EIKE petition to Angela Merkel .

Klaus Landfried lived in his native Heidelberg until his death.
