Gerd Seifert (musician)
Gerd Seifert (born October 17, 1931 in Hamburg ; † February 28, 2019 in Berlin ) was a German horn player.
Life
Gerd Seifert started playing the horn at the age of twelve . He learned from Albert Doescher in Hamburg. At the age of 15 he was already playing at the Hamburg State Opera . At that time he performed as a soloist with Richard Strauss' 1st Concerto .
At the age of 17 he became principal horn player with the Düsseldorf Municipal Orchestra . He worked here from 1949 to 1964. In 1956 he won first prize at the International Music Competition in Munich ( ARD ). He also taught at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf.
From 1964 to 1996 Seifert was principal horn player with the Berliner Philharmoniker . In 1969 he recorded Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's horn concertos with the Berlin Philharmonic under Herbert von Karajan. Since 1961, as a member of the orchestra of the Richard Wagner Festival in Bayreuth, he has played Siegfried's horn call over a hundred times .
From 1970 to 2003 Gerd Seifert taught at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the Orchestra Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic . After his retirement he played as principal horn in the orchestra of the Grand Liceo in Barcelona and as honorary solo horn in the Singapore Symphony.
As a member of the musical orchestra in Berlin , he played Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Webber's Cats . He played as principal horn player at the Liceu Theater in Barcelona from 2005 to 2006 .
Gerd Seifert died on February 28, 2019 in Berlin, the funeral service in his honor took place on March 15, 2019 at the Dahlem forest cemetery in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district of Berlin .
