Gerhard Götze (* 1948 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German documentary filmmaker , gallery owner , publisher and publicist . Since 1990 he has been editor-in-chief of the art magazine NIKE NEW ART IN EUROPE, which was founded in 1983 .

Life

Through frequent changes of location between Berlin and Frankfurt , Götze came into first contact with visual artists , writers and jazz music at the beginning of the 1960s . It was at this time that he began to develop an interest in film as a medium of expression and in off-off theater .

1979 Gerhard Götze started well, as executor of 20th-century artists, including the painter and art teacher Christof Drexel and the painter and graphic artist Conrad Westpfahl to operate. Furthermore, he dealt with the exile situation of artists and writers during the Third Reich and was active as a curator and initiator for exhibitions.

From 1982 he produced documentaries about artists of the early 20th century.

His journalistic activities, which he has intensified since 1985, include texts about artists as well as interviews that he conducts with them.

In 1990 he took over the art magazine NIKE NEW ART IN EUROPE (then: NIKE Neue Kunst in Europa ), which was founded in 1983 and is based in Munich's Leopoldstrasse , where Götze is still (as of 2017) as editor, publisher and editor-in-chief.

From 1992 to 2003 he was also the operator of the KAIROS art gallery , which he opened and which, like NIKE, was also located on Leopoldstrasse.

Today Gerhard Götze lives and works in Ingolstadt .
