Gerhard Immler

Gerhard Immler (born November 16, 1961 in Kempten ) is a German archivist and historian . Immler is a lecturer at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and a lecturer at the Bavarian Archive School. He has been the chief archive director at the Bavarian Main State Archives since 2012 .

Life

Immler attended the Carl-von-Linde-Gymnasium in Kempten from 1971 to 1980 and completed his military service after passing the Abitur . In 1981 he began studying history and English at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich, which he completed in 1986 with the state examination for teaching at grammar schools. In the same year, until 1988, he did a doctorate in Bavarian and Medieval History and English Linguistics. At the same time he took on a position as a research assistant at the Institute for Bavarian History .

In 1989 Immler received his doctorate from Professor Andreas Kraus with a dissertation on Elector Maximilian I of Bavaria and his role in the Peace of Westphalia . The work was 1992 with the title Elector Maximilian I. and the Westphalian Peace Congress. The Bavarian foreign policy from 1644 to the Ulm Armistice was published as volume 20 of the monographic series of the Association for the Study of Modern History . Until 1991 he was an archive trainee at the Archive School in Munich and from August 1991 archivist , from 1998 archivist at the Augsburg State Archives . In December 1998 he was appointed head of the secret house archives of the Bavarian Main State Archives and in 2006 he was promoted to archive director and in 2012 he was appointed chief archive director.

Already from 1998 to 1999 Immler took on a teaching position for historical auxiliary sciences at the University of Augsburg . Since 2003 he has been a lecturer at the Bavarian Archive School for German and Bavarian History and since 2009 lecturer at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich for palaeography and archival studies . He is a member of the Commission for Bavarian State History at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and the Swabian Research Association .

Gerhard Immler is the author , editor and editor of numerous specialist publications as well as co-author of the Historisches Lexikon Bayerns and the Neue Deutsche Biographie .
