Gerhard Schmidt (politician)

Gerhard Schmidt (born April 19, 1935 in Erdmannshain ) is a former German farmer and functionary of the DBD block party . From 1971 to 1990 he was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

Schmidt, son of a farming family, attended elementary school, learned the trade of a farmer from 1949 to 1952 and attended the agricultural technical schools in Wurzen , Elbisbach and Döbeln from 1952 to 1955 , where he graduated as a certified farmer. In 1954 he joined the Democratic Peasant Party of Germany (DBD) and worked from 1955 to 1958 as an agronomist in the machine-tractor station (MTS) Gutenswegen , in the Wolmirstedt district . From 1958 to 1962 he was first an agronomist, then until 1972 chairman of the agricultural production cooperative (LPG) "Solidarity" in Dahlenwarsleben . From 1973 to 1975 he worked as the head of the Cooperative Plant Production Department (KAP) in Dahlenwarsleben, and from 1976 onwards as Chairman of the LPG (Plant Production) “IX. Party Congress ”in Dahlenwarsleben. He completed a distance learning course from 1958 to 1963 at KMU Leipzig and Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg as a qualified farmer. From 1963 to 1970 he was a member and from 1970 to 1975 chairman of the DBD district executive in Wolmirstedt. At the same time he was from 1965 to 1971 a member of the Wolmirstedt district council.

In November 1971 he was elected to the People's Chamber for the first time and was there from 1976 to 1990 a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

From 1975 to 1977 he was a member of the secretariat of the DBD district committee in Magdeburg . On the IX. At the DBD party congress in May 1972, he was elected to the party executive committee and at the 10th party congress in May 1977 he was elected to the presidium of the party executive committee, to which he belonged until 1990.

In May 1984 he was elected at the VII Central Conference of Delegates as a member of the Presidium and Deputy Chairman of the Central Board of the Association of Mutual Farmers Aid (VdgB) and confirmed in this position in May 1989 at the VIII Central Conference of Delegates.

During the transition in the GDR and the merger of the DBD with the CDU in June 1990, he became a member of the CDU. After the German reunification , the former model cooperative was converted into Dawa Agrar GmbH & Co. KG and Schmidt became its managing director.

Gerhard Schmidt lives as a pensioner in Dahlenwarsleben.
