Gerhard Tucholski (born June 30, 1903 in Konitz, West Prussia , † October 31, 1983 in Berlin ) was a German guitarist , lutenist, composer and music teacher .

Life

Tucholski was born the son of a customs secretary. He studied guitar with Heinrich Jordan (1877– approx. 1933), lute with Hans Neemann (1901–1943) and flute in Berlin . As a guitar and lute soloist, he played in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy. In a concert report from 1928 in Berlin he is described as a "young architect"; it is not known whether he worked in this profession. 1932–1949 he was a member (2nd third guitar) in the Berlin guitar quartet of Bruno Henze (quint bass guitar, arrangements) - together with Willi Schlinske (1st third guitar), Erich Bürger (primary guitar). They played concerts and made a lot of radio recordings. He taught at the music school in Prenzlauer Berg. He published several of his arrangements for voice and guitar, guitar solo, guitar duo and guitar trio in six issues with Apollo-Verlag Paul Lincke Berlin: Russian folk music, singing muse on the Pleiße (Sperontes), classical melodies, Latin Music I and II and South America. These editions are available today from Schott Music Verlag.

He lived with his wife, the painter Hildegard Tucholski , in modest circumstances. They met at the Akademie der Künste and married in 1935 against the opposition of his father-in-law. His brother, the graphic artist and painter Herbert Tucholski , took it in for a while in the studio building on Klosterstrasse in Berlin. In 1942 their daughter Anette was born and the families grew closer again. They later moved to their parents' home in Falkensee and in 1952 they moved to West Berlin , where he taught at the Wilmersdorf music school. He has worked for the station RIAS since it was founded in 1946. In the legendary children's program " Onkel Tobias ", which was broadcast on RIAS from 1947–1972, he played the guitar while the audience was led to believe that Uncle Tobias (that is the actor Fritz Genschow ) himself played the guitar that he " Friederike "called. In addition, Tucholski played the guitar and the lute in some of the RIAS radio plays , e.g. B. in Franz Schubert. Three pictures from the life of the composer (3 parts, 1947), Ingeborg (by Curt Goetz, 1948) and Official foam beating or Ten eggs officially beaten into foam (by Elli Tschauner, 1950).

In 1973 he moved with his wife to Witzenhausen , where he continued to teach guitar. A year before his death, his daughter brought him back to Berlin. The Tucholskis were on friendly terms with Käthe Kollwitz all their lives .
