Gerhard Wind (born January 22, 1928 in Hamburg , Germany , † 1992 in Jávea near Alicante , Spain ), was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

Gerhard Wind did an apprenticeship as a bookseller , which he successfully completed in 1952. From 1952 to 1954, Wind studied at the State Art School in Hamburg with Karl Kluth , Fritz Winter and Ernst Wilhelm Nay . From 1954 to 1958 he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Otto Coester . Since then he has lived and worked in Düsseldorf. In addition, he had another residence and a studio in Jávea near Alicante in Spain .

In 1957, Wind received the Cornelius Prize from the city of Düsseldorf. In 1958 he was awarded a scholarship from the Villa Massimo in Rome . Gerhard Wind participated in documenta II (1959) and documenta III in 1964 in Kassel . As a full member of the German Association of Artists , he took part in a total of fifteen annual DKB exhibitions between 1957 (7th exhibition at the Berlin University of the Arts ) and 1990 (38th exhibition at the Berlin Academy of the Arts ).

Gerhard Wind was a representative of abstract painting and graphics in the Informel style . He also called himself a neo-constructivist . After painting and drawing in "free form" for over twenty years , he began to design with strict geometric shapes in 1977. His oeuvre includes drawings, murals, room paintings, reliefs, glass windows, floor designs and sculptures, e.g. B.
