Gerhart Schmidt

Gerhart Schmidt (born June 3, 1925 in Lörrach , Baden , † October 30, 2017 in Bonn ) was a German philosopher .

Life

Gerhart Schmidt, son of businessman Alfred Schmidt and Anna born Stürzinger, devoted himself to put- graduate studies in philosophy, Romance studies and history at the universities of Basel , Freiburg and Lyon , 1951, his promotion to Dr. phil.

After years of assistance , he completed his habilitation in 1959 at the University of Freiburg as a private lecturer in philosophy, and in 1965 he was promoted to adjunct professor there . In 1972 he followed a call to a full professorship for philosophy at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , which he held until his retirement in 1990.

Since 1971 his translation of René Descartes ' Meditations on the First Philosophy has been published in Reclam's Universal Library .
