Gerald "Geri" Schuller (born May 23, 1968 in Mistelbach , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian pianist and keyboard player .

Live and act

Schuller came into contact with jazz music at the age of 13 . Two years later he entered the Conservatory of the City of Vienna , with lessons in jazz piano with Rudi Wilfer and jazz theory with Heinz Czadek . In 1988 he was brought to the Hallucination Company by Wickerl Adam . He was a sideman at Bluatschink , Monti Beton , Kim Cooper, Bill Ramsey , Günter Mokesch , Zipflo Weinrich , Heinrich von Kalnein , Harri Stojka , Angus Thomas Bangus, Shlomit Butbul, Karl Ratzer , and others. v. a. In 1993 he founded the a cappella group The Rounder Girls .

Since 2003/2004 he has been a lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna , specializing in pop arrangement and ensemble management. In 2005 Barrie Kosky's production Boulevard Delirium took him twice to Australia , in May at the Malthouse Theater in Melbourne , in November and December revived in Melbourne and premiered in the Playhouse of the Sydney Opera House . In 2006 Geri Schuller wrote the music for a play in the Theater der Jugend: Inkheart based on a book by Cornelia Funke and worked several times as musical director at the Theater der Jugend. In the meantime he composed several film scores, e.g. B. to two Tatort episodes ( Wrong Packing - 2012, Counted - 2013 - both directed by Sabine Derflinger) as well as the documentary The Gentlemen asked for cash - 2013, which is about the 50th anniversary of the legendary mail robbery in England.

In 2017 Schuller composed the jazz opera - a musical swing game: “Highly valued lower ground floor”. In 2019 he composed the music for the film “Die Dohnal” (Sabine Derflinger), which will be released in 2020, as well as for the documentation of “Schöne neue Brot” (Harald Friedl).

In 2019 Schuller also completed his master's degree in jazz composition and arrangement at the MUK Vienna.

Schuller lives in addition to his teaching position at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (composition, arrangement and harmony) as a freelance musician, composer and arranger in Vienna.
