Robert Geritzmann

Robert Geritzmann (born February 9, 1893 in Essen-Überruhr , † September 12, 1969 in Gelsenkirchen ) was a German SPD politician .

Life and work

After graduating from elementary school, Geritzmann worked as a metal worker from 1907. In 1913 he enlisted in the army and was a soldier throughout the First World War and thereafter until 1919. Seriously wounded in the last weeks of the war, he then worked as an innkeeper. From 1919 to 1933 he was local chairman of the Workers' Sports Association .

Geritzmann was already a member of the SPD in the Weimar Republic . In 1945 he became chairman of the SPD sub-district of Gelsenkirchen. From 1946 to 1963 he was Lord Mayor of Gelsenkirchen. He was also a member of the German Bundestag from its first election in 1949 to 1961. He was always directly elected in the Gelsenkirchen constituency.

Honors

On April 17, 1963, the city of Gelsenkirchen granted him honorary citizenship . The street Robert-Geritzmann-Höfe in Gelsenkirchen is named after him.
