Gerlinde Doberschütz

Gerlinde Doberschütz (* 26. October 1964 in Meiningen as Gerlinde Mey ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic , the 1988 Olympic champion in the quad with coxswain was.

The rower from SC DHfK Leipzig was the eighth junior world champion in 1982 . In 1985 she won her first GDR championship title in the adult class in eighth place; In the line-up of Susann Heinicke , Gerlinde Doberschütz, Beatrix Lehmann , Martina Walther , Kathrin Thurm , Ute Stange , Kathrin Dienstbier , Carola Hornig and helmsman Sylke Kretzschmar , the boat took second place behind the eighth from the USSR at the World Rowing Championships. In 1986 she won the GDR championship title in eight and together with Ute Stange in two without a helmsman . In the same line-up as in 1987, the boat won the GDR championship in 1988. Shortly before the Olympic Games in Seoul , Sylvia Müller married and competed as Sylvia Rose in the Olympic regatta. The boat from the GDR won ahead of the four from China and the Romanian world champions.

Since 1985 she has been married to Sven Doberschütz, the brother of the Olympic rowing champion Jens Doberschütz . After her career, Gerlinde Doberschütz worked as a teacher at a regular school in Wasungen for sport and biology.

For her Olympic victory in Seoul Doberschütz was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in Gold. In 1986 she received this medal in silver.
