Gert Winkelmeier (born March 28, 1956 in Neuwied ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ).

Life and work

After attending primary school, Winkelmeier began an apprenticeship as a universal milling cutter at Winkler + Dünnebier in Neuwied in 1970 . On the second educational path he acquired the subject-related technical college entrance qualification for economics. From 1979 to 1986 Winkelmeier was the managing director of the Burg Wahrberg youth education center in Aurach . Before and alongside his work as a member of the Bundestag , he worked as an advertising clerk.

Political party

Winkelmeier became a member of the Socialist German Workers' Youth (SDAJ) in 1972. 1973–1990 he was also a member of the DKP .

Winkelmeier joined the PDS in 1998 and was chairman of the PDS district association in Neuwied until 2003. From 2003 to autumn 2005 he was a state treasurer on the PDS state board of Rhineland-Palatinate .

MP

In 2005 Gert Winkelmeier entered the 16th German Bundestag via the state list of the party Die Linke.PDS Rheinland-Pfalz and was a member of the Defense Committee there until the end of the 2009 legislative period .

After various newspapers reported that Winkelmeier had rented premises to prostitutes in a house he owned and that an investigation into tax evasion had been initiated against him, Winkelmeier resigned from the left-wing parliamentary group on February 13, 2006 . Since then he worked as a non-attached member of the Bundestag until the end of the legislative period . Because of the abuse in related articles, he won a lawsuit against the Bild newspaper before the Berlin district court in August 2006 : Axel Springer AG was sentenced to pay compensation for pain and suffering.

On March 25, 2009 Winkelmeier was nominated as a direct candidate for the party Die Linke in the Ahrweiler constituency for the 2009 federal election and received 6.1 percent of the first vote on September 27, 2009. In the local elections in Rhineland-Palatinate in 2009 , he was pushed up from rank 15 of the district election proposal of the left to rank 2 and elected to the district council of the Neuwied district.

Activities in other organizations

1971 came angle Meier in the trade union IG Metall a later OTV , union pressure, IG Medien and ver.di . He is also active in the VVN-BdA , the German Freethinkers Association and the Friedrich Wolf Society .
