Gertraud Gruber

Gertraud Gruber (born May 24, 1921 in Munich ) is a German beautician and entrepreneur. She is considered a pioneer in the wellness movement. In 1955 she founded the first beauty farm in Europe at Tegernsee .

Career

As a young woman, Gruber initially pursued her dream of becoming a classical dancer and attended Isadora Duncan's dance school . The beginning of the Second World War ended these plans. Gruber completed training as a therapeutic gymnast and specialized in the treatment of facial muscles after nerve injuries. After the end of the war, she trained as a beautician at the Friedl Groh technical college in Munich. Her marriage in 1949 led her to Rottach-Egern , where she initially worked as a beautician. Together with her husband, she bought a former silver fox farm , where she opened Europe's first beauty farm on October 1, 1955 after expansion and expansion . The house quickly became a popular address for celebrities. Actresses like Nadja Tiller , Caterina Valente and Heidelinde Weis were among the first regular guests. Today the house has 110 beds and around 25,000 guests are looked after each year.

At the same time, Gruber developed a line of cosmetics that she sells under her own name. Similar to her treatment methods, she follows a strictly holistic approach.

Gertraud Gruber acquired the Benediktushof in Holzkirchen near Würzburg and in 2002 handed over the management of the Center for Spiritual Paths to the Benedictine monk and Zen master Willigis Jäger .

Gruber also supports Michael Aufhauser's sanctuary near Iffeldorf with generous donations .
