Gerulf Herzog (born June 2, 1936 in Mainz ; † July 11, 2020 ) was a German local politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After attending the modern language grammar school in Oppenheim and graduating from high school on February 28, 1956, Herzog studied electrical engineering and communications engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt and graduated on October 26, 1961 with a degree in engineering . After completing a traineeship at the Deutsche Bundespost, Herzog passed his state examination as a building assessor on January 18, 1964. From March 1, 1964 to March 31, 1973 he worked as a consultant for communication technology, for public relations and press work and for the training of technical college and university graduates. On February 1, 1967, Herzog was appointed to the post office, on June 19, 1979 to the post office council and on November 6, 1972 to the post office director. In 1968 temporarily worked as an expert in Indonesia. In 1972/1973 he was seconded by the Deutsche Bundespost as a consultant at DATEL GmbH. Several publications on telecommunications technology followed. Herzog was a lecturer at the Hessian Administration College for Construction Law and Construction, as well as at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and at the Hessian Academy for Local Politics. At the same time, Herzog was chairman of the board of directors of five savings banks. Herzog published various articles on local and structural policy. From 1997 to 1999 he was managing director of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft . Herzog runs his own consulting company and is the managing director of RCS Im- und Export, Industriemontagen GmbH. From 1999 to 2004 he was a member of the board of directors for the Central Hesse region of the working group of self-employed entrepreneurs

politics

On February 1, 1973, Herzog was elected mayor of the city of Grünberg . During this time, the renovation of the old town, the infrastructure and the settlement of businesses were pushed by Herzog. From February 1, 1980 to January 16, 1985 he was a full-time first district member with the subject area of ​​finance, building law and construction, surveying and cadastral affairs. From January 16, 1985, Herzog was district administrator in the Vogelsberg district and from October 31, 1985 to October 15, 1991, district administrator of the Mainz-Bingen district .
