history

The current building was built in the late 1960s.

Around 40% of the students are external students, i.e. from neighboring towns such as Stommeln , Sinnersdorf or Geyen , Sinthern and Fliesteden .

particularities

The school is a member of the school association 'View over the fence' and of schools without racism . Since April 2011 the school has been allowed to call itself the European School . Since 2013/14 the school has also been accepting pupils with special needs. In addition, two support classes have recently been set up for students with a migration background. The grammar school is the first of its kind to receive the Jakob Muth Prize for Inclusive Schools , which has been awarded since 2009 .

The Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium on the way to inclusion

Since 2013 the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium has set itself the goal of becoming an inclusive school. In order to achieve this goal, the school deals extensively with the basics of inclusion and publishes its experiences on its homepage, among other things, in order to provide outsiders with a good insight. In addition, information evenings are regularly organized and offered by an open group of experts.

“In a broad sense, inclusion means for us the appreciation of diversity and individuality in all school fields of work. In this sense, inclusion means for us to see the diversity of people as a basic requirement and at the same time as an opportunity for the education and upbringing of young people at a grammar school. "

Learning together

Since the 2013/14 school year, the inclusive program has included the establishment of inclusive learning groups in which children with and without special educational needs learn together. Special framework conditions apply to these classes, for example the limitation of the classes to a maximum of 25 students, including four to six children with special educational needs or children who receive differentiated support. Furthermore, these classes are supervised by two teachers and one teacher with special needs education. Thanks to the good cooperation between the teachers, very good learning conditions can be created in the class. To provide support, the grammar school has introduced set team times, which are also supported by an internal advisory team and an employee of the regional school advisory service in Rhein-Erft.

Compensation for disadvantages as an instrument of the inclusive school

The framework conditions for class work and exams can be made more fair for students with recognized special educational needs or a medical diagnosis by compensating for disadvantages. However, this compensation does not relate to the performance requirements per se. At the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium, guidelines for parents, teachers and pupils have been developed. This provides information on all essential questions relating to compensation for disadvantages and can be downloaded as a PDF file from the homepage.

The concept of individual advancement

The school promotes the students individually to a special degree. The focus is on promoting strengths and balancing out weaknesses. The individual support measures meet the diverse needs of the students. The aim is to acquire skills. For example, you should learn how to plan and reflect on a learning process, how to use help and support and how to plan your own time effectively and work together with others. Individualization is implemented in relation to the learning pace, the learning path, the learning aids / learning materials, the requirement levels and the type of task. The special offers include, for example: support and profile courses, working groups and free study times. The students are accompanied by the teachers in their independent learning. In the free study times, the students support each other. Independent learning ensures differentiation and individualization and meets the needs of the students by promoting strengths and minimizing weaknesses.

building

There are three floors and four stairwells (A, B, C and D) in the school building . These stairwells are connected on all floors by a hall or a so-called walkway. Corridors lead from the individual staircases to the outside and inside on all floors. In addition to 44 classrooms for the natural sciences faculties, there are around 15 specialist rooms, which are divided into physics , chemistry and biology rooms. There are also six art halls, a geography room, 24 course classrooms and seven computer rooms with 18 to 28 personal computers each . There are also several conference rooms, a large room that can be divided into two, various basement rooms such as the theater basement and an extensive administration area and many smaller offices for individual groups such as the student council , radio AG and the school newspaper . There is also a library, which was renovated in 2008, and four music rooms.
