The Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium (often GSG for short ) is a gymnasium in Unna . It is named after the Scholl siblings . In October 2014, around 870 pupils, around 400 of whom were in upper secondary school, were taught.

The Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Unna was founded in 1968 and is located in the Königsborn district near the spa gardens . It is currently attended by 870 students, around a quarter of whom come from the neighboring towns and communities of Unna (for example from Bönen , Fröndenberg , Kamen-Heeren , Dortmund-Wickede , Dortmund ). Traditionally and conceptually, the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium is a district school, a city school and a regional school. The students are taught by around 80 teachers and trainee teachers. In the lower secondary level , the school has three to four classes.
The GSG Unna offers a wide range of educational opportunities: three profiles from grade 5 enable the lesson table to be accentuated according to individual talents and interests. In the linguistic field of activity, the GSG enables a recognized bilingual course of study with a bilingual profile class in a bilingual German-English course. Children interested in MINT can choose to focus on this area in grades 5 and 8 and later in the upper grades - in grade 5 with the MINT profile. A special offer is the "Movement, Media & Society" profile. The timetable in this profile includes additional sports lessons in grade 5 and contemporary and age-appropriate media education in grades 5 to 7. The topic of Europe also plays a special role.
In addition to the profile classes, there are a number of other learning and experience opportunities at the GSG, e.g. B. in teaching projects, on class trips, in learning programs and training, in internships or competitions. A special feature of the GSG are the specialist teacher specialization lessons in mathematics, German and foreign languages in all grades from 5th to 9th grade. These possibilities are supplemented by educational and support offers outside of the classroom: These include, for example, the break offers in the afternoon care, working groups (AGs) and special offers in the afternoon care.
The Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Unna has specialist rooms for biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, art and music. A library with a self-study center for the upper school is available to the students. Sports lessons are given in the adjacent Hellweg sports halls and on the outdoor sports facilities of the school center as well as in the nearby indoor swimming pool and in the ice rink.
The GSG is equipped with a modern IT infrastructure and uses the urban learning system "unit21". The mobile computers used in class are wirelessly integrated into this system and can be used in all rooms of the school. A special educational learning interface promotes interactive, structured learning and enables innovative teaching methods. Schoolchildren can also conveniently access their data from home. An implemented "child and youth protection" ensures the necessary security.
The Unna town hall, which is adjacent to the school, regularly supports the GSG at major school events. These include B. The 5th and 6th grade concerts, plays, reading competitions, performances of the literature courses and many other events.
The Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Unna has been officially certified as a European school since 2008, making it the only secondary European school in Unna. The Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium started its work in 1968 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018. It was the first grammar school in Unna where boys and girls were given co-education . The founding director wanted Hans and Sophie Scholl, the Scholl siblings , to give the school its name. On the Geschwister-Scholl-Day, schoolchildren will take part in a variety of projects to find out how and where people today (can) stand up for humanistic values with comparable commitment.

Bilingual branch
The bilingual branch is a program to support foreign language learning. The bilingual branch has existed at the GSG Unna since 1991. In North Rhine-Westphalia alone there are over 60 grammar schools that offer this branch. The English language is increasingly taught in bilingual classes. In the classes, the subjects are politics , geography and history in English teaching. 5th and 6th grade students have two hours more English lessons than non-bilingual students.
The aim of bilingual teaching is that the command of the language is more secure and that studying or training abroad is made easier , as well as greater opportunities in international competition.
Russian as a 3rd foreign language
At the GSG, among other things, Russian is offered in the compulsory elective area of grades 8 and 9 . This gives the students the opportunity to gain an insight into a different, non-western-oriented culture.
The Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium has had a partnership with the Gymnasium 1527 in Moscow for several years . After one year of language lessons, the students have the opportunity to go to Russia to improve their Russian.
