Location of Wickede in Dortmund

Wickede is the statistical district 34 and at the same time the easternmost part of the city of Dortmund . It is located in the Brackel district . On December 31, 2018, 15,131 inhabitants lived in Wickede.

Dortmund Airport is located in the southernmost area of the district .

geography

Wickede is 10 kilometers east of Dortmund city center and 5 kilometers west of the city center of Unna, which is east of Wickede . Wickede also borders the communities of Holzwickede in the south and Kamen in the north.

The place is characterized by mixed housing developments. Around the Hellweg there is still a relatively high number of old half-timbered houses, some of which are now listed. This is particularly evident in the Wickeder Strasse / Eulenstrasse area and at Pleckenbrink. In the quieter side streets of Hellweg and in the “Wohnpark Wickede” there are many high-quality, middle-class single-family and terraced houses, most of which were built from the 1950s or 1970s. On the outskirts of Wickede, however, many multi-family housing estates have emerged from the 1960s. The two largest settlements, the large housing estate Meylantstrasse in the north-east of Wickeder and the settlement east of Steinbrinkstrasse in the south-west of Wicked, are considered social hot spots. Dortmund Airport is located on the southern edge of Wickede .

history

The rural settlement on the old trading route Hellweg was first mentioned by name in 1220 in the bailiwick of Friedrich von Altena-Isenberg .

The Johanneskirche was completed around 1250 (evangelical since the Reformation).

In 1846 the United Norm colliery was put into operation on the municipality boundary to Holzwickede , but it was closed again in 1865 for economic reasons. Remnants of the operating buildings were preserved until the 1980s and were only removed in the course of the airport expansion. In 1854, shafts 1 and 2 of the Massener civil engineering colliery were sunk in the east of the village . In 1925 these shafts and shafts 3/4 in Massen Nord were closed.

In 1874 Wickede became part of the Brackel office in the Dortmund district .

In 1905, Wickede was connected to Dortmund city center and the city of Unna via the Dortmund district electric tram .

With the municipal territorial reform, the Brackel office was dissolved and the previously independent municipality of Wickede became part of the city of Dortmund on April 1, 1928.

The construction and expansion of Dortmund Airport on Chaussee began in the 1960s .

Large housing estate Meylantviertel

Meylantviertel Dortmund-Wickede

In 1960, construction began on a large housing estate in the Neue Heimat in the north-east of Wickeder, between the Wickeder housing development in the south and the Wickeder Ostholz in the north. The first apartments were completed in 1963/64 and construction was completed in 1965. According to a small-scale quarterly analysis by the Housing Office as of December 31, 2009, there were 1401 residential units in three- to eight-story apartment blocks in which 2550 people lived. In the period that followed, the settlement was surrounded by single-family and terraced houses and thus incorporated into the Wicked residential development. In the following years, the negative consequences became apparent, among other things, through the high number of socially disadvantaged families and high unemployment. The current owner LEG is now trying to improve the quality of living and the poor image through extensive renovation measures.
