Gespensterjäger - Auf Eisiger Spur is a German children's film by Tobi Baumann from 2015. The film is based on the children's book Die Gespensterjäger auf Eisiger Spur by Cornelia Funke . The cinema release was on April 2, 2015.

Eleven year old Tom is constantly annoyed by his big sister Lola. He is considered a fearful rabbit among his peers. When Tom meets the slimy ghost Hugo in the basement, he is terrified. However, it turns out to be harmless and extremely friendly, telling Tom that it was driven from its home by a malicious ghost. If it can't go back there, it will dissolve. So the two persuade the frustrated ghost hunter Hedwig Kümmelsaft to save the ghost's life. In doing so, they also save the city from an ice catastrophe.

criticism

The film-dienst calls the film an “elaborate and carefully staged adaptation” that is characterized by “a good feel for speed and rhythm as well as for comedy and seriousness”. Despite “more conventional topics”, the film is “equally entertaining” for children and adults. The film website kino.de judged that Anke Engelke was proving to be a “veritable character actress” and that young actor Milo Parker was a “highly talented actor”. The production design and special effects were also highlighted. The portrayal of the ghost Hugo belongs “to the best that has been seen in a German production”.
