Gheorghe Ene (born January 21, 1937 in Bucharest , † April 6, 2009 ) was a Romanian football player and coach . He played a total of 227 games in the first Romanian football league, the Divizia A . To avoid confusion with his namesake Alexandru Ene , he was listed in the Romanian sports press as Ene II .
Career as a player
The career of Gheorghe Ene began in his hometown of Bucharest in 1955 at Voinţa Bucharest (later Progresul CPCS ) in Divizia B . In 1956, the first division club Locomotiva Bucharest (now Rapid Bucharest ) signed him. During the 1957/58 season he became a regular player. He made his big breakthrough a year later when he was able to secure the top scorer's crown in 1959 with 17 goals .
While Ene waited in vain at Rapid to win a title with the team, this changed abruptly when he switched to local rivals Dinamo Bucharest in 1960. In the 1960/61 season it was only the runner-up behind Steaua Bucharest , Dinamo was able to play in the In 1962 , 1963 , 1964 and 1965 he won the championship four times in a row and won the Romanian Cup in 1964 . In the 1961/62 season, Ene achieved the best yield of his career within one season with 19 hits, but he had to give way to Gheorghe Constantin and Mircea Dridea in the goalscorer list . At the European level, however, he and his club did not manage to survive the first round in the European Cup . The club was eliminated from top clubs such as Inter Milan and Real Madrid .
After Ene had hardly been considered in the 1966/67 season , he left the capital in 1967 and moved to the newly promoted Dinamo Bacau . A year later he ended his career.
National team
Gheorghe Ene only played three games for the Romanian national football team without being able to score a goal. He made his debut on June 15, 1955 in a friendly against Sweden . It was followed by another appearance on September 29, 1957 in the World Cup qualifier against Yugoslavia , before he was used for the last time on October 8, 1961 in the friendly against Turkey .
Career as a coach
After the end of his active career, Ene was a coach in the youth center of Dinamo Bucharest in the early 1970s . At the beginning of the 1978/79 season he was the head coach of Jiul Petroșani , but had to take his hat back in October. In addition to several stations at lower class clubs such as Unirea Slobozia , Muscelul Câmpulung and CS Târgovişte , he looked after Corvinul Hunedoara at the beginning of the 1983/84 season , but was replaced after three games by Ladislau Vlad .
