The Ghiridone or Gridone is a mountain in the Ticino Alps . In Italy it is also called Monte Limidario , since its summit also represents the state border between Switzerland and Italy .
At 2188 m above sea level M. it is the highest peak on the shores of Lake Maggiore . It is also the highest peak between Centovalli and Valle Cannobina and one of the highest mountains south of the Centovalli Passo San Jorio line , which is why it offers a comprehensive panoramic view.
Ascent
The easiest ascents are from the Swiss Brissago via the Rifugio Al Legn (T 2, at the top T 3-4 on the SAC hiking scale ) and from the Italian Cavaglio via the Alpe of Monti Olzeno and the Rifugio Biuse, T 2, at the top T 3. The mountain can also be reached from Centovalli (starting point: Bordei 726 m above sea level or Rasa 898 m above sea level ), without exception T 3, depending on the snow conditions, also more difficult.
The ascent from Brissago can be shortened thanks to the freely navigable roads to Mergugno ( 1060 m above sea level ) or Cortaccio ( 1067 m above sea level ). From Cavaglio, on the other hand, the road is only open to Gurrone.
The Gridone is also popular as a ski tour in winter. In this case, the ascent usually takes place from Mergugno or Cortaccio, two hamlets above Brissago.
