Leone Giacomo Ossola
Leone Giacomo Ossola OFMCap , also Giacomo Leone Ossola (born May 12, 1887 in Caluso , † October 17, 1951 in Brescia ) was an Italian Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Novara .
Life
He was ordained a priest for the Capuchin Order on October 28, 1909 . In 1922 he became pastor of the Roman basilica of San Lorenzo al Verano .
On September 22, 1937 he was appointed Vicar Apostolic of Harar in Ethiopia and Titular Bishop of Salona . He received his episcopal ordination on October 17, 1937, by Pietro Cardinal Fumasoni Biondi , Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples ; Co- consecrators were Giuseppe Antonio Ferdinando Bussolari OFMCap, Archbishop of Modena and Nonantola , and Archbishop of Curia Luca Ermenegildo Pasetto OFMCap. Leone Giacomo Ossola was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Novara on October 19, 1943 and its bishop on September 9, 1945. During this time he distinguished himself by saving human lives, which is why the city of Novara erected a monument to him.
For health reasons, he renounced the bishopric of Novara on June 12, 1951 and was made titular archbishop of Hierapolis in Syria . He died that same year in a religious hospital in Brescia and was buried in Novara Cathedral.
