Giacomo Serra

Giacomo Serra (* 1570 in Genoa , † August 19, 1623 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal.

Giacomo was the third child of Antonio Maria Serra, Member of the Nobile Vecchio Portico of Genoa and Senator of Florence , and Claudia Lomellini, who also came from a noble family.

He moved to Rome, where he became a cleric in the Apostolic Chamber in January 1601 . During the second vacancy of 1605 he was governor of Borgo . In 1608 he was appointed extraordinary nuncio to the papal soldiers in Hungary and at the end of the same year he became general treasurer of the Apostolic Chamber.

On 17 August 1611 it appointed Pope Paul V. to Cardinal . On September 12th of the same year he received the Diaconia of San Giorgio in Velabro .

On September 16, 1615 he was appointed legate in Ferrara for three years . In 1618 he was confirmed for a further three years, he held this office until his death.

On September 28, 1615 he was raised to the rank of cardinal priest and received the titular church of Santa Maria della Pace .

He took part in the conclaves of 1621 and 1623 , in which Gregory XV. and Urban VIII. were elected.

He was buried in his titular church.
