The Gibraltar Erbstollen , also Gibraltar Erbstollen , is a former Erbstollen in the Bochum district of Stiepel . The tunnel was probably built by the Gibraltar mine in the 18th century. The tunnel has been recorded on the Niemayer map since 1897. The Gibraltar Erbstolln was according to the records of the Bureau of Mines one of the most sough in the Brandenburg Mountain District. The Erbstollen belonged to the jury area Westlich Witten . Although hard coal was also mined in the tunnel , it was primarily used to drain the pit water from the developed pit fields .

history

The beginnings

On May 6, 1778, the Längenfeld Scotland was awarded . On November 23, 1780 the Längenfeld Clemens was awarded, on February 2, 1781 the Längenfeld Johannes and on December 20, 1782 the Längenfeld Mastbaum (also Maßbaum) was awarded. After the award of the length field Gibraltar on January 11, 1786, operations began. The tunnel was taken out of service before 1796. On December 31, 1803, the right to the hereditary tunnel was granted to reveal those entitled . In December of 1830 the plant was put back into operation and the tunnel was driven north. The tunnel mouth hole of the Erbstollen was on the north bank of the Kemnader reservoir in the area of today's Oveney shipping pier at a height of 75 meters above sea level. In 1838 a coal store was built on the Ruhr. In 1839 the authorized persons Clemens, Mastbaum, Johannes, Scottland and Gibraltar consolidated Erbstolln to the colliery Gibraltar; In 1842, no productive sections of seam could be solved by the tunnel . On May 8th of the year 1844 three square fields were awarded as Beilehn Gibraltar on the seams Eugen, Alexander and Diocletian.

The other years

In 1845 a tunnel was excavated in the north of the slate clay . During the driveway there was a strong influx of water. The tunnel reached a driveway length of 508 laughers . In place No. 1 to the east, coal was extracted in the seam narrowed by up to 20 units . The east of the tunnel in seam No. 9 ascended basic line had a jump in the footwall approached. The carbon obtained in the loci were determined by ten bushel trolleys from the tunnel promoted . In 1847 the Erbstollen reached a length of 580 laughs. On May 15, 1849, the Geviertfeld Citadelle and on September 12, 1850 the Geviertfeld Fortifaction were awarded as a Beilehn. In 1855 the tunnel reached a length of 1430 meters, the later final length of the tunnel was 2000 meters. At that time, five seams with different thicknesses were mined . The lowest seam was 28 inches thick . The greatest thickness of a seam was 74 inches, two other seams were 38 and 65 inches thick, and the thickness of one seam varied between 28 and 54 inches. Due to the low water level in the Ruhr, there was hardly any mining in 1857. In the years 1858 and 1863, coal and iron stone were mined in addition to hard coal . In the course of 1863, the Erbstollen was set in time limits . On March 18, 1865, further mines were consolidated to form the United Gibraltar Erbstollen mine . The United Gibraltar Erbstollen colliery used the mine as a conveyor tunnel for many years; after this mine was closed, the Gibraltar Erbstollen was no longer maintained.

Promotion and workforce

In the mine field of the Gibraltar Erbstollen mainly so-called edible coal was mined. The first known workforce at the mine dates back to 1830, when seven miners were working on the excavation of the Erbstollen. The first known production figures of the mine come from the year 1833, 87,370 bushels of hard coal were produced. In 1835, 52,262 bushels of hard coal were mined. In 1838, 47,415½ tons of coal from Prussia were mined. In 1840 the production sank to 11,076¼ Prussian tons. In 1845, 106,836 bushels of hard coal were mined. In 1847 28,647 bushels of hard coal were mined, the workforce fluctuated between 17 and 41 miners that year. The last known production and workforce figures for the mine come from the year 1855, when 71,234 Prussian tonnes of hard coal were extracted with 123 miners.

Current condition

The tunnel mouth hole of the Erbstollen is still preserved today. It is located on the circular route around Lake Kemnader in the immediate vicinity of the preserved main building of the Gibraltar colliery. Despite the damming of the lake, the mouth hole is now above the water line.
