Giedrė Šlekytė

Giedrė Šlekytė (* 1989 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian conductor .

Life

education

Šlekytė was born the daughter of a mathematician and a dentist. She sang in a children's choir with her sister, and the choir director recommended an arts school to her. Her career aspirations changed over time from singer, dancer and journalist to conductor. After studying music at the National Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis Art School in Vilnius, she studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Johannes Prinz and Martin Sieghart and at the University of Music and Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig with Ulrich Windfuhr and Matthias Foremny conducting. As part of the Erasmus program , she spent a semester at the Zurich University of the Arts with Johannes Schlaefli. She attended master classes with Riccardo Muti , Bernard Haitink , Colin Metters and Mario Venzago, among others .

In 2013 she received the 2nd prize at the Solon Michaelides International Conducting Competition in Cyprus, although the 1st prize was not awarded. In 2015 she was nominated for the Young Conductor Award at the Salzburg Festival alongside Lorenzo Viotti and Jiri Rozen and was a prize winner of the International Malko Conducting Competition .

Conductors

In the seasons 2016/17 and 2017/18 she was first Kapellmeister at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt , where the musical director for productions such as The Abduction from the Seraglio , The Land of Smiles , Maria Stuarda , The Magic Flute , Don Giovanni , La Traviata and Swan had . In summer 2018 she conducted performances of the Magic Flute for children at the Salzburg Festival.

In the 2018/19 season, Šlekytė made her debut with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and conducted a concert at the Semperoper with works by Georges Bizet , Jukka Linkola and Mozart . It also launched by Barrie Kosky newly staged opera The subscribed by Franz Schreker at the Zurich Opera House , at the Leipzig Opera she conducted the Gewandhaus Orchestra in performances of Swan Lake and Hansel and Gretel at the Theater Basel , she led the Magic Flute and the State Theater Mainz Perela, uomo di fumo by Pascal Dusapin .

She had other engagements with the Orchester de Chambre de Lausanne , the Bruckner Orchester Linz , the Philharmonie Brno , the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra , the Philharmonic Orchestra of Luxembourg , the Kungliga Filharmoniska Orkestra and the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra.
