Gieraltowitz (Polish: Gierałtowice ) is a village in Upper Silesia . It is located in the municipality of Reinschdorf in the powiat Kędzierzyńsko-Kozielski (Kandrzin-Cosel district) in the Opole Voivodeship .

Gieraltowitz is located around six kilometers southwest of the Reinschdorf municipal seat, twelve kilometers southwest of the district town of Kędzierzyn-Koźle ( Kandrzin-Cosel ) and 45 kilometers south of the voivodeship capital Opole .

history

The place originated in the 14th century at the latest and was first mentioned in a document in 1380. In 1418 a wooden church was first mentioned in the village. The first known owner of the place was Hanus Suchowski, who in 1484 sold the place to Hans Roschowski. In 1531 the name Geraltowitze was mentioned. In 1550 the wooden church was rebuilt. In 1556 there was a school.

The place was mentioned as Gieraltowi (t) z in the book Additions to the Description of Silesia in 1783 , belonged to a Mr. General Freiherr von Saß and was in the district of Cosel and had 244 inhabitants, a manorial Vorwerk, a Catholic parish church, a rectory, a school, a windmill, six farmers and 23 gardeners. In 1865 Gieraltowitz consisted of a church village and a manor. At that time the village had a post mill, a Kretscham (restaurant), three farms, 17 gardeners and 21 cottages. The hamlet of Kopanina belonged to the municipality. In 1901 a new school building was built.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 134 eligible voters voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 70 for membership in Poland. At Gut Gieraltowitz, 112 voted for Germany and six for Poland. Gieraltowitz remained with the German Empire after the division of Upper Silesia . On May 8, 1936, the place was renamed Gerolsdorf as part of a wave of renaming during the Nazi era . The new church was built from 1936 to 1940. The old scrap wood church was dismantled for conservation purposes and rebuilt in Przewos . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Cosel .

In 1945 the until then German place came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed Gierałtowice in Poland on September 9, 1947 . The district of Cosel was renamed Powiat Kozielski. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . In 1975 the powiat Kozielski was dissolved. In 1999 the place came to the newly founded Powiat Kędzierzyńsko-Kozielski . On October 26, 2006, German was introduced as the second official language in the Reinschdorf community. On January 11, 2011, the place was also given the official German place name Gieraltowitz .
