history

The place originated in the 13th century at the latest and was first mentioned on March 25, 1243 in a document by Mesko II of Opole-Ratibor as "villa Mechniz". In 1376 there was already a wooden church in the village.

The place was mentioned in 1783 in the book Entries describing Silesia as Mechni (t) z , belonged to the Cosel lordship and was in the Cosel district and had 339 inhabitants, a manorial farm, a mill, a Catholic church, a school, 16 farmers, 21 gardeners and some cottagers. In 1865 "Mechnitz" consisted of a church village. The colonies Brodek and Rossochocz belonged to the municipality. Before that there was also a dominium owned by Naß and later by Mletzko.

At that time, the village had 105 households, a Erbkretscham (restaurant), 19 farms, eleven gardeners, 16 farms and 58 farms, as well as a mill, a church and a school.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 506 eligible voters voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 186 for membership of Poland. After the division of Upper Silesia, Mechnitz remained with the German Empire . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Cosel .

In 1945 the previously German town came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed the Polish Mechnica . The district of Cosel was renamed Powiat Kozielski. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . In 1975 the powiat Kozielski was dissolved. In 1999 the place came to the newly founded Powiat Kędzierzyńsko-Kozielski . On October 26, 2006, German was introduced as the second official language in the Reinschdorf community. On January 11, 2011, the place was also given the official German place name Mechnitz .
