Gigi (Zkittlez) , formerly Zkittlez , is a song by the German rapper Gringo and the US rapper 6ix9ine from 2018. The fourth single from Gringo's debut album Alle Freunde fett was written by the artists together with the musician Hasan.K and by Goldfinger030 produced.

Gringo and 6ix9ine got to know each other at a concert that the latter gave in Berlin and at which the former appeared as a preliminary act . The two rappers then decided to start a collaboration .
6ix9ine had already used the lyrics of the verse performed on the song on the tracks BREAKIN IT DOWN and Wish U Never Done That , the latter never being officially released and only heard as a leak . However, there is an intro passage recorded by the American on the joint track, which was created especially for him and explicitly contains Gringo's name.
Originally, the collaboration only appeared under the title Zkittlez , before it was renamed Gigi (Zkittlez) on all platforms for unknown reasons . Several other spellings can be found on the Internet and in magazines, but these are not official.
Music and lyrics
Gigi (Zkittlez) is a Trapsong , which according to the genre of deep 808 - Bass Drums , rapid hi-hats and snares will be accompanied, with a catchy synth melody runs through the song.
The intro , the outro and the first stanza are rapped in English by 6ix9ine , whereby the artist dispenses with the manner of presentation that has become his trademark, reminiscent of Screamo . His contribution begins with the musician paying homage to several deceased or imprisoned hip-hop artists, then discusses false friends who can stab you in the back, and ends with a description of rough street life. Gringo takes over the chorus and the second verse. It is noticeable that his text hardly contains any German words and instead uses a mixture of different languages. He does not follow traditional narratives or conventional syntax, but uses an associative chain of keywords that resembles a collage .
Music video
The music video for Gigi (Zkittlez) is characterized by a noticeably quick cut with lots of visual effects. 6ix9ine can be seen alternately in a recording studio , on a stage in front of a live audience or surrounded by other people in a dark room. Gringo raps his part in front of a graffiti- sprayed wall , as well as in the street where a group of people are standing behind him. Between the recurring scenes with the musicians, one to two second clips are faded in , which often, but not always, underlay the text with images. For example, packs of the Skittles candy can be seen when the title is rapped, and a cartoon of the two characters mentioned is played on the line “Tabi, Mickey and Minnie , Fix-Cookie and Brownie” .
criticism
Gigi (Zkittlez) received positive reviews. It was felt that both rappers presented their verses with force and aggressiveness, although it didn't matter that they didn't follow a common thread in terms of content . Gringo's decision to incorporate little German into the text and thus adapt to the internationally oriented 6ix9ines style was praised and it was found that both musicians harmonized excellently. The US rapper's verse was also received as possibly his best. Overall, Gigi (Zkittlez) was seen as one of the greatest collaborations between German and American hip-hop artists.

In Germany , Gigi (Zkittlez) was a commercial success that managed to climb to number 6 on the charts. In Austria and Switzerland , positions 18 and 29 achieved moderate placements. Despite the international popularity of 6ix9ines, the song could not prove itself beyond the German-speaking market.
