Giovanni Antonio Amadeo (* 1447 in Pavia ; † August 27, 1522 in Milan ) ( Lugano town ) was an Italian- Swiss sculptor , architect and engineer.

biography

Born in the parish of San Lorenzo as the son of Luigi Amadeo from Lugano and Giovannina Griglio, he later lived alternately in Milan, in the Certosa di Pavia , in Torre del Mangano and Binasco near Pavia . His first bride was the daughter of the architect Guiniforte Solari from Carona TI .

Amadeo was involved in the takeover of the Tuscan Renaissance in Lombardy , where he was mainly active. The Cappella Colleoni in Bergamo , with its colored marble facade and sculptures, is one of the most beautiful examples of Amadeo's architecture. It was created in the years 1470–1476. In addition, the Colleoni tombs and the facade of the Certosa di Pavia were in his hand and he was involved in the crowning of the dome of the Milan Cathedral .
