from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Giovanni Carlone , called il Genovese (* 1584 in Genoa , † 1631 in Milan ) was a Genoese painter .

Live and act

Carlone was the eldest son of the Lombard sculptor Taddeo Carlone († 1613) from Rovio and the brother of Giovanni Battista Carlone . He received his training first from his father, then from Pietro Sorri in Siena and later in Rome and Florence. He learned fresco painting near Passignano in Florence . His first works included the decoration of the vault of the Church of the Nunziata in Genoa and the painting of the Chiesa del Gesù . He also worked in the Pallavicini and Spinola palaces. Commissioned by the Theatines , he began designing the Church of S. Antonio in Milan in 1630 , but died before completing the work, which was then completed by his brother Giovanni Battista. His frescoes show good color and perspective design, the oil paintings are considered less successful.
