Giovanni Cefai MSSP (born August 5, 1967 in Żebbuġ , Malta ) is a Maltese religious and Roman Catholic prelate of Santiago Apóstol de Huancané .

Life

Giovanni Cefai joined the religious order of the Missionary Society of St. Paul (Missionalis Societas Sancti Pauli, MSSP) in 1984 and made solemn profession on October 23, 1994 . From 1987 to 1991 he attended the Jesuit- run Campion House in Osterley in west London, a boarding school named after Edmund Campion , which prepared for the study of theology, and from 1991 to 1997 he studied philosophy and theology at the University of Malta . On October 23, 1994, he made Perpetual Vows . On December 6, 1997, he received the sacrament of ordination . From 1997 to 1999 he worked in youth ministry in Malta. He also completed a postgraduate degree in pastoral theology . In 1999 he obtained a licentiate in theology.

In 2001 his order sent him to Peru. From 2002 to 2013 he was pastor of the parish of Santa Cruz in Arequipa . From 2013 to 2019 he was pastor of the parish of Santiago Apóstol in Arequipa.

On April 3, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him the first prelate of Santiago Apóstol de Huancané. On June 22, 2019, Giovanni Cefai was ordained bishop by Archbishop Javier del Río Alba of Arequipa in Arequipa Cathedral . The inauguration in Huancané followed on June 30, 2019.
