His teachers were Jacopo Sansovino and Danese Cattaneo. Many of Danese Cattaneo's works were completed by him. So he made the figure of the seated Doge Leonardo Loredan on the funerary monument that Cattaneo erected in Santi Giovanni e Paolo (Venice) . After Cattaneo's death in 1572 Campagna worked in Padua in the Basilica of Saint Anthony according to the order originally directed to Cattaneo and there he made his masterpiece with the relief Miracle of Saint Anthony the Resurrection of a Slain .

A few years later Campagna returned to Padua and made the bronze tabernacle for the sacrament chapel.

He spent most of his life in Venice , where most of his works are located:

At the end of the sixteenth century he was the most famous sculptor in Venice. He received all the big orders and ran a large workshop.

In Verona there is the Annunciation made by him above the portal of the old Palazzo del Consiglio and a Madonna at the Collegio dei Mercatanti.

Campagna cast bronze sculptures for the first time in 1590.
