Gisela Kallenbach

Gisela Kallenbach (born March 28, 1944 in Soldin / Neumark ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). From 2004 to 2009 she was a MEP in the group The Greens / European Free Alliance . From 2009 to 2014 she was a member of the Saxon state parliament .

Life and education

Due to the social origin and the Christian creed (which was expressed among other things in the refusal of the youth consecration ) Kallenbach was denied the Abitur in the GDR . After secondary school, an apprenticeship followed and from 1962 to 1969 she worked as a laboratory assistant and research assistant on behalf of the VEB Mineralölwerk Lützkendorf at the Leipzig Academy of Sciences . In evening and distance learning courses, she trained to become a Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Technologie der Chemie and graduated in 1967 with the state examination for English translation.

From 1969 to 1990 Kallenbach worked as a laboratory manager and subject manager (with an intermittent break in work due to the birth and upbringing of the three children).

After the fall of the Wall , Kallenbach worked as a consultant in the environmental protection department of the city of Leipzig from 1990 to 2000 . From 2000 to 2003 she worked as International Mayor, UN Mission in Kosovo .

politics

Gisela Kallenbach is a member of the Greens and was 1996-1999 Committee member, Regional Executive Alliance 90 / The Greens in Saxony . In terms of local politics, she was a member of the Leipzig City Council (1990–1991) (resigning her mandate due to taking up work in the administration) and representing the City of Leipzig in the “ Eurocities ” environmental committee . 2004–2009 she was a member of the European Parliament. In the state elections in 2009 , it moved into the Saxon state parliament via the state list (9th place) of the Greens .

After the state elections in 2014 , Kallenbach withdrew from politics.

Honorary positions and honors

Gisela Kallenbach is a member and sustaining member of numerous Leipzig associations and foundations. She is chairwoman of the board of the Synagogue and Meeting Center Leipzig eV, co-founder and board member of the Foundation Citizens for Leipzig. She is a member of the board of trustees of the German-French Education Center in Leipzig , board member of Bildungswerk Sachsen of the German Society, and a member of the board of trustees of the European Movement in Saxony. As a contemporary witness of the reunification, she is also actively involved in the contemporary witness portal “20 Years of Peaceful Revolution and German Unity”.

In 2001 she received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
