Giuseppe Tosi (born May 25, 1916 in Borgo Ticino , Novara , † July 10, 1981 ) was an Italian athlete . Tosi was 1.93 m tall and had a competition weight of 125 kg.

Giuseppe Tosi was an excellent discus thrower who was unlucky enough to always be in the shadow of his compatriot Adolfo Consolini . At the Olympic Games in 1948 he won silver with 51.78. He was one meter behind the winner Consolini and one meter ahead of the third, American Fortune Gordien . Four years later at the 1952 Games , Tosi finished 8th with 49.03.

Tosi was able to win the silver medal three times in a row at the European Championships. In 1946 he was almost three meters behind Consolini with 50.39 but also two meters ahead of third-placed Finn Veikko Nyqvist with 48.14 m. In 1950 he was only one and a half meters behind Consolini at 52.31. But he had a lead of almost four meters over third-placed Finn Olavi Partanen . In 1954 things got tighter: with 52.34 Tosi was only one meter behind Consolini but also only 50 cm ahead of third-placed József Szécsényi from Hungary.

From 1939 Giuseppe Tosi was with the Carabinieri in Rome. For the Carabinieri, who play an important role in promoting competitive sport in Italy, Tosi was the first ever winner of an Olympic medal.
