history
The Marine-Einsatz-Kommando 80 was supposed to complete its training from June 1944 on Lake Maggiore for the common use with "assault weapons" made in Italy. But it was increasingly used to secure the naval facilities in northern Italy from partisan attacks.
The anti-partisan operations culminated on August 13, 1944 with the shooting of twelve innocent Italian civilians in Borgo Ticino as a measure of atonement. After the end of the war, the events were dealt with twice in Italian military courts. In 1949, the command leader of Marine-Einsatz-Kommando 80 was convicted, and more than 70 years later, in 2012, his deputy as well.
