Gozzano ( Piedmontese Guzon , Lombard Gussön ) is a municipality on Lake Orta with 5541 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian province of Novara (NO), Piedmont region . In addition to the historic center, the municipality includes two small villages, Auzate and Bugnate, which are still in rural surroundings.
The neighboring municipalities are Bolzano Novarese , Borgomanero , Briga Novarese , Gargallo , Invorio , Orta San Giulio , Pogno , San Maurizio d'Opaglio and Soriso . The patron saint of the place is the deacon Julianus .

The place is at an altitude of 367 m above sea level. The municipality covers an area of 12 km² . Gozzano is around 3 kilometers south of Lake Orta .
Environmental damage
A copper silk factory was located in the village ( Seta Bemberg SA ) since the 1920s . The unfiltered discharge of the wastewater mixed with copper and ammonium sulfate made the entire fish population of Lake Orta extinct in 1929 . The lake was considered biologically dead for decades. In 1956 the company installed the first copper filters, and the sewage discharge ended in 1986.
traffic
Gozzano has a train station on the railway line from Domodossola to Novara in the immediate vicinity of the old town center . Until 1924 Gozzano also had a railway connection to Alzo .
