The Gliegerkarspitze is a 2575  m high mountain peak in the Allgäu Alps in North Tyrol , Austria .

Location and surroundings

The Gliegerkarspitze is part of the Hornbach chain , a mountain range in the Allgäu Alps, which is bordered by the Hornbachtal in the north and the Lech valley in the south. Immediate neighboring peaks of the Gliegerkarspitze are the Bretterspitze ( 2608  m ) in the east and the Wolekleskarspitze ( 2522  m ) in the southwest. Gliegerkarspitze, Bretterspitze and the Urbeleskarspitze located further east frame the Urbeleskar, on whose Karschwelle the Kaufbeurer House ( 2007  m ) is located. The eponymous Gliegerkar, on the other hand, opens to the southeast in the direction of the Lechtal and is bordered by the Jungfernspitze, Woleckleskarspitze, Gliegerkarspitze and Bretterspitze.

First ascent

The Gliegerkarspitze was first climbed in 1893 by Chr. Wolff and his mountain guide Friedle.

Ascent

The base for the ascent is Hinterhornbach . From there you can get to the Kaufbeurer house in about 2½ hours and then follow the path to Bretterspitze. You branch off to the right and come to a ridge on a rugged and gravel path that leads to the east summit (2551 m). The ridge crossing to the 24 m higher main summit is much more difficult than climbing the eastern summit alone, not least because of the greater exposure. The climbing requirements are level I (UIAA) .

Transition to the top of the board

Crossing the western ridge of the Bretterspitze from here is delightful. This follows the ridge course very directly from the notch. Deviations in the rugged flanks appear lighter at most, but then they are seldom. Directly on the ridge there is astonishingly solid rock, which is conquered in a fun, easy climb. Shortly before the summit of the Bretterspitze, a short section on the wall demands courageous gripping (UIAA II). From the Kaufbeurer house , if you keep to the ridge line, the tour appears quite impressive. Duration approx. 45 minutes.
