Glindfeld is a hamlet in the Hanseatic city of Medebach in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

In the 12th century the place was first mentioned in a deed of foundation as "Glintfelden". Further mentions appear in the following years in document books, among others with Glyntfelden (1292), Glintvelde (1319), Glentvelden (1324), Glintfelt (1575). In 1499, the Augustinian monastery in Glindfeld was converted into a canony of the Kreuzbrüder zu Glindfeld ; the Glindfelder Kreuzherren had a great influence on the time during the Reformation in Medebach.

From 1816, Glindfeld was part of the municipality of Medebach tax municipality in the Medebach mayor's office in the Brilon district and administratively belonged to the outer district of Medebach; In 1818 30 people lived in the village. 30 inhabitants are also given for 1822, the place being given as royal domain and brickworks . Shortly before Easter 1945, fierce fighting broke out in the area between Glindfeld and Küstelberg. German soldiers and soldiers from the US Army were involved . First, on April 1, 1945, German troops marched through Glindfeld and occupied the Kahlen and Hesseberg. The following day, the place itself was occupied by soldiers of the Wehrmacht, with a general based on Gut Glindfeld. There was fierce fighting with intensive artillery fire by American troops on the German positions. All houses with the exception of the forestry office were damaged. On April 3, Glindfeld was captured by the Americans.

The place is 3 km west of the town center of Medebach, to which it belongs administratively, at the foot of the Glindfeld mountains and on the edge of the Medebach Bay . West of Glindfeld is the Glindfelder forest, a roughly 2,151 hectare large forest reserve . The Hesseberg, the Kahlen and the Hohe Dienberg can be found around Glindfeld. The Gelängebach runs through the hamlet and flows into the Orke at Medelon .
