course

The Gelängebach rises in the northeast of the Rothaargebirge . Its source is in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park around 600 m south of the Medebach hamlet of Hallacker (around  540  m ) on Landesstrasse  740 ( Küstelberger Strasse ; Küstelberg –Medebach ) and around 2.2 km (as the crow flies ) northwest of the nearby Medebacher The former Augustinian convent Glindfeld in Glindfeld (approx.  425  m ) is located in the heart of the town . It is located on the eastern flank of the wooded Geitenberg ( 630.2  m ), a north-eastern side knoll of the Reetsberg ( 792.2  m ), at around 550  m above sea level. NHN ; directly to the west of it, a 552.6  m high forest path point is marked on topographic maps .

Initially, the Gelängebach , which runs entirely in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park and mainly south-eastwards, runs in a wooded area past the northern Engelmannskopf ( 501.2  m ) and the north-eastern Hesseberg ( 596.2  m ) and feeds the swan pond . Shortly afterwards it passes the former Augustinian convent Glindfeld , from now on flowing mainly in agricultural areas, where the Glindfeld Forestry Office was located until 1995 . After passing the Kahler ( 491.5  m ), on which the Kahlenkapelle stands, the Eckeringhauser Siepen joins the Eckeringhauser Siepen when coming from the east towards the Dageler farm . The stream then passes the Gelängeberg ( 434.2  m ) to the east .

A little further southeast of the Gelängebach opens shortly after crossing under the main road  617 (Medebach- Medelon ) below the upper and middle mill near the Orke-km 20.75 to approximately 349  m altitude in the coming there about from southwest Eder influx Orke .

Catchment area and tributaries

The catchment area of the Gelänbach is 14.854 km². Its longest tributary is the 5.4 km long Eckeringhauser Siepen , which flows in near the Gelängebach-kilometer 2.6 and whose catchment area is 4.486 km².

The source and the upper reaches of the Gelänbach stream are located in the nature reserve Waldreservat Glindfeld (LP Medebach) ( CDDA no. 319281; designated 2002; 21.53 km² in size) and below the former Augustinian monastery Glindfeld the flowing water runs through the NSG Gelängebachtal (CDDA no. 318433; 2008; 96 ha), where the NSG Gelängeberg (CDDA no. 318434; 2002; 52 ha) is located directly northeast of the brook . Landscape protection areas on the brook are the LSG Medebach (CDDA no. 345073; 1983; 44.68 km²), the LSG Glindfeld forest clearing (CDDA no. 345163; 1983; 36 ha), LSG Medebach core area: spring hollows , lowland areas and flat slopes (CDDA No. 345074; 2004; 8.92 km²) and LSG cultural landscape complex Medelon (CDDA no. 345054; 1983; 82 ha).
