The Schwelgersbach , in the upper reaches of the Schwelgersgraben and partly also called Schwelgerbach in Hesse , is an approximately 5.5 km long, southwest and orographically right tributary of the Orke in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis and the Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg ( Germany ).

course

The creek rises as Schwelgersgraben in the Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis in the eastern foothills of the Rothaargebirge and belongs entirely to the Medebacher Bucht located there . Its source is in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park in the Hallenberger hill country between the Medebach districts of Berge and Dreislar . It is located on the southeast flank of the Raunsberg ( 501.1  m above sea  level ), a little south of a fork in the path ( 440.5  m ) at about 438  m above sea level.

Initially it flows as Schwelgersgraben southeast to the border of the north Hessian district Waldeck-Frankenberg, where it leaves the nature park. In Hesse, it runs, sometimes also called Schwelgerbach , forming an elongated left-hand bend, roughly in an easterly direction through the Münder Grund , where it crosses under Kreisstrasse  49 ( Neukirchen - Münden ). Shortly afterwards the Holzenbach joins .

A little further to the northeast, the Schwelgersbach, which flows entirely through a forest-lined and agriculturally used area, flows east-southeast of Münden (to Lichtenfels ) at about 310  m above sea level into the Orke tributary of the Eder, which comes from about west there .

Catchment area and tributaries

The catchment area of the Schwelgersbach is 8.06 km². Its largest tributary is just under 1.6 km length of the near Munden at Schwelgersbach-km 0,95 flowing in from the south Holzbachstraße whose catchment area 1,856 square kilometers large.
