geography
The area includes the former clay mining area of the earth mountains southeast of Glindow. They are a holdover from the brick industry. This landscape, untypical for the Mark Brandenburg , was created as an overburden dump for clay extraction. The Glindow Alps are located in the area of the Central Brandenburg plateaus and lowlands and extend between the villages of Petzow and Glindow in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district on an area of around 120 hectares. In a very small space, the centuries-old clay mining resulted in a special relief with a great variety of locations with protected cool, damp gorges, hills and small bodies of water. The slopes of these gorges are covered with mesophilic mixed forests of sycamore and norway maple, hornbeam, winter linden, ash, red beech and robinia. The forests are little or not influenced by forestry. Deadwood is not cleared. This is overgrown with mosses and lichens. Some forest fringes are made up of dry grass. The small bodies of water at the bottom of the gorges up to forty meters deep are covered with pond lenses. This nature reserve is fundamentally different from the surrounding landscape. This is more characterized by dry pine forests, large-scale orchards and other agricultural areas and a now dense settlement. The Glindow Alps are a popular hiking and recreational area with signposted hiking trails and display boards to explain the flora and fauna .
