The Gmünder Art Association is a German Kunstverein , in the gallery in the former granary of the city Schwabisch Gmund organizes individual and group exhibitions of contemporary works by national and international artists.

history

The art association was founded in Schwäbisch Gmünd in 1890. It was founded as the “Vorwärts” arts and crafts association by 27 goldsmiths and silversmiths , engravers and chasers . The aim of the resulting community of interests of artisans was the exchange and expansion of design skills. In the 1950s and 60s the composition changed - many designers became members. The statutes of 1954 say: “The association serves the direct promotion of art and the professional development of its members. It should continue to arouse understanding for artistic work and it is a special endeavor of the association to interest young people in art ”. The Gmünder Kunstverein has around 400 members in 2015, half of whom are artistically active, which is reflected in the concept of the events. For example, a motto is created twice a year and corresponding artistic positions are researched and invited. In terms of population, it is one of the largest art associations in Baden-Württemberg . The art association is committed to the mediation of contemporary art . As a non-profit institution, it enables discussions and encounters between artists and the various groups of visitors. She organizes guided tours, artist talks, lectures, trips and much more.
